What is NOMI CSArt?
Over the last 20 years, community supported agriculture (CSA) has become a popular way for consumers to buy seasonal food directly from local farms. Locally, McKinley Community CSA is in its third year and looking for ways to further that same buy-local spirit by offering additional “shares” to their shareholders in 2012. New offerings include fresh cut flowers, honey and local art.
This is the first year of NOMI CSArt which is modeled after the community supported arts program developed in partnership with MNartists.org and Springboard for the Arts. We are limiting the program this year to 10 artists and 10 shareholders and will implement lessons learned as the program grows forward.
We are seeking North Minneapolis artists, of all disciplines, to help perpetuate the NOMI CSArt program and build a stronger community which recognizes its artists as assets and valued contributors to the overall well-being of its residents.
How NOMI CSArt works:
• Ten artists will be selected to receive a stipend to create 10 “shares” for the program by June 15, 2012.
• Shareholders purchase shares and will receive a box containing 3-4 works of art on three different pick-up dates throughout the Spring/Summer season.
• The pick-ups will be at The Goddess of Glass & Friends and will be an event in itself with an opportunity for shareholders and artists to meet.
• Artist selection will be made by a jury comprised of well-respected NOMI food, arts and community leaders.
• Benefits to artists include support for the creation of new work, the ability to establish relationships with local collectors and patrons, and participation in a new and exciting model for art support and distribution!
• Buyers and collectors benefit by receiving multiple works from local artists at a fabulous value, developing relationships with local artists, the discovery of new artists and variety of disciplines and a chance to support local artist’s careers and a vibrant community.
